TEKS Streamlining: Science TEKS Revision
NEW: The State Board of Education will hear testimony on the draft streamlining recommendations on Wednesday, November 9. The recommendations are found HERE. To register for the SBOE testimony (item 5), go to HERE.
On May 6, 2016, the State Board of Education (SBOE) representatives turned in their list of recommendations to TEA for the Streamlining the Science TEKS Committees (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, IPC, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). On June 30th, TEA notified those who were selected to serve on the Science TEKS Streamlining Committee. The committee members were told to determine the amount of time necessary for students to master the content in the current standards, to delete and reduce the student expectations, not to add or move content, to eliminate any duplicated TEKS that are other courses or grade levels, to ensure that the remaining student expectations are student driven. The committee was also asked to ensure that the modifications suggested did not have a negative effect on vertical alignment and did not affect printed materials. The various committees first meeting was held in Austin, Texas, on July 27-29, and follow-up meeting September 26-27th.
TSELA will provide an update on November 9, 2016.
There are many ways to get involved with TSELA.
